Product Description

Leakage currents in electrical installations often have to be traced across multiple circuits, especially when intermittent RCD trips occur and very small leakage currents cannot be resolved with conventional clamp meters. The HIOKI CM4002-90 combines the CM4002 AC leakage clamp meter with the Z3210 Bluetooth adapter in a single set, adding Bluetooth communication for data transfer while enabling leakage current measurements down to 60 μA for the evaluation of very small leakage currents in electrical installations.

The instrument provides six measurement ranges from 6 mA to 200 A AC and covers leakage current, differential current, and load current measurement in a single clamp meter. This allows very small leakage currents, residual current to earth, and current in individual conductors to be checked within the same installation, supporting the identification of circuits that contribute to cumulative leakage and RCD tripping.

Leakage Current Measurement in Electrical Installations

With its 40 mm jaw, the CM4002-90 accommodates larger conductors and multi-core cables used in distribution systems and electrical installations. This allows leakage currents from multiple circuits to be evaluated in applications where conductor size and cable bundles exceed the capacity of smaller leakage clamp meters. The instrument is specified for leakage current measurement under installation conditions according to IEC/EN 61557-13.

In installations with inverters and switching power supplies, leakage current can include components above the power frequency. The CM4002-90 covers frequencies from 15 Hz to 2 kHz and includes a selectable 50/60 Hz filter for separating the leakage current relevant to RCD tripping from higher-frequency components. When a defined leakage current level is exceeded, a threshold alarm provides audible and visual indication by means of a buzzer and red warning backlight, while also allowing pass or fail evaluation against a user-defined limit.

Bluetooth Communication

Bluetooth communication is included with the CM4002-90 by means of the supplied Z3210 Bluetooth Adapter. Measurement values can be transferred to a smartphone or tablet during troubleshooting and linked to individual measurement locations for documentation. In combination with the free GENNECT Cross app for iOS and Android, leakage current values can be stored, annotated, and compiled into reports directly on site.

The Bluetooth connection also expands the use of the comparator and event recording functions. Threshold values and recording conditions can be set from a mobile device, and recorded events can later be reviewed together with trip start times, trip stop times, and maximum leakage values. Measured values can also be displayed in real time on a smartphone or tablet when the instrument is installed in locations where the display is not easily visible. In addition, the Z3210 supports HID functionality, allowing measured values to be entered directly into Excel or other applications. In this mode, the adapter is recognized as a Bluetooth keyboard by the connected device.

Functions for Testing Electrical Installations

Current and frequency can be viewed at the same time on the display, which helps distinguish higher-frequency leakage components during measurement. Further functions include Auto Hold, Max/Min/Avg recording, inrush current measurement, and peak value recording for evaluating short-duration current peaks. Rated CAT IV 300 V / CAT III 600 V, the CM4002-90 is intended for measurements in fixed installations, distribution panels, and electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial environments.

Designed and manufactured in Japan. For decades, HIOKI has been developing current measurement technology for demanding electrical measurement applications, from clamp meters to high precision current sensors. All of them are designed and built at the company’s own production site in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The close link between development and manufacturing, together with in-house control of sensor technology, mechanics and electronics, becomes evident in daily use.
